Guildford West features on Guildford Local Committee Agenda

by fionawhite on 15 June, 2013

Guildford Local Committee is made up of the 10 county councillors in Guildford Borough with 10 borough councillors.

Our next meeting is on 19th June.  Two petitions are coming to the Committee and both of them are from Guildford West County Division – my division.  One of them is about Cabell Road.  Only half the road was repaired at the end of last year and the other half is still in a terrible state.  Residents who live in the road and local people who drive along it regularly have been collecting signatures on the petition which is going to be presented by Wayne McShane, the Chairman of Park Barn & Westborough Community Association.  The second is from residents of Sheepfold Road who are fed up with their road being used as a rat run.  They have signed a petition asking for a 20mph speed limit on the road which will be presented by Mrs Sheila Johnson who drew up the petition and collected the signatures.

Another two items on the agenda are very important for Guildford West.  The first is the Surrey Rail Strategy with the option for a railway station at Park Barn.  It is one part of a strategy which could help to cut down the number of cars driving through Park Barn and Westborough or parking in the area to get to the Royal Surrey County Hospital or Surrey Research Park.

The other is the 5-year roads maintenance plan called Project Horizon.  There are some of our roads listed in the plan but not nearly enough.  One of them has already been done.  The others are Weston Road, Shepherds Lane,  Applegarth Avenue, the parts of Cabell Road and Southway which have not been done already, Woodside Road, Hillcrest Road and Byrefield Road.  A lot of work has already been done to roads in the area and this work will make a bit more of a difference but there are so many roads still in a poor condition and the progress in repairing them is far too slow.  If Surrey County Council cut back on waste more money would be available to speed up the road repairs process.

The Committee is meeting at King George V Hall, Effingham, KT24 5ND if you are able to come along to hear the arguments and see how the decisions are made.
