Westborough and Park Barn Church Summer Fete

by fionawhite on 16 June, 2012

I went to the Church Summer fete at St Clare’s Church in Park Barn this afternoon (Saturday 16th June) which went ahead outside the church despite very blustery conditions.  The stallholders had to manage without the gazebos which usually protect them from the weather.  The wind was so strong that anything like that was in danger of being blown away.  The stalls run by the Community Safety Wardens and Park Barn & Westborough Community Association had difficulty in keeping their papers on the tables but still managed to talk to a lot of residents.  It was a good thing that the rain held off and the sun shone for a lot of the time.

I love going to the fete because everyone there is so welcoming although the cake stall is bad for my waistline.  Every year I buy a plant from the plant stall and, despite the fact that my gardening skills are sadly lacking, they always seem to survive and thrive once I get them home.  I also gave in and bought a necklace from the jewellery stall – a bit of bling to liven up my standard jacket and trousers when I’m at meetings.   I was lucky enough to win a jigsaw puzzle on the tombola stall, which has a lot of blocks of blue and green on it so it may take a while to finish.

What a wonderful community there is in Westborough and Park Barn.  I feel really privileged to be their representative at Surrey County Council.
